What does a Future Broadcast Pioneers membership entitle me to?

Membership to college and university students is free. Members will gain field experience, contacts, inside information, tools and skills that are immeasurable to any professional in the media industry. Future Broadcast Pioneers members are also guaranteed (if they reserve at least 2 weeks ahead of the event) a seat at the Broadcast Pioneers Symposium that is held annually in the spring. Members will be able to attend any meetings, panel discussions, or events that Future Broadcast Pioneers holds. Future Broadcast Pioneers members have an opportunity to attend Broadcast Pioneers luncheons and/or dinners at the member rate. These events are closed to the public, but as a member of the Future Broadcast Pioneers, you could attend. Plus, our parent organization, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia holds nine monthly luncheons a year. Each luncheon two members of FBP are selected by the FBP president to attend the event for free. This is a major networking opportunity.

Do I have to be a Radio/TV/Film major or Broadcast Journalism major to join?

No. We accept applications from students that are interested in all aspects of broadcast media. This is includes, but is not limited to, those interested in aspects of production. Since broadcast media is such an encompassing field, people interested in other areas of broadcasting such as public relations, sales, advertising, writing, journalism, news reporting, management, talent, and even law will find Future Broadcast Pioneers beneficial to their careers.

What is the Broadcast Pioneers Symposium?

April 2002 marked the first Broadcast Pioneers Symposium at NBC-10's studio. The Future Broadcast Pioneers will hold a symposium at a Philadelphia area television station annually in the spring that will be sponsored by our parent organization, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia. The symposium includes an extensive tour of the studio facilities, a panel discussion with employees that work in the studio, guest speakers, lunch with staff members, and much more! This is an amazing opportunity to meet people and see how a studio really operates. It is an event that any Future Broadcast Pioneer would not want to miss! In 2003, the event was held at the studios of CBS3, KYW-TV and the 2004 to 2007 symposiums were at the facilities of 6ABC, WPVI-TV.

What is Careers' Night?

It is a similar event as the symposium except that it is held on an university campus. The first one was in 2003 at Cabrini. Other Careers' Nights have been held at Rowan University, Temple University and LaSalle University. The 2007 event will be held late in October on the campus of Villanova University.

I'm already out of college. Now what?

In 2007, we will, for the first time accept members from those already out of school and now working in the broadcast (or related) field. These young professional broadcasters can remain a member of FBP for ten years, and once they have this experience, will automatically be transferred into membership of the parent organization, the Broadcast Pioneers of Philadelphia.
